Maurizio Pellizzoni launches the MPD Studio

Maurizio Pellizzoni, Director of interior design practice MPD London has announced the launch of the MPD Studio in London’s exclusive Chelsea design district.

The studio is located off Lots Road, a stone’s throw from the international design destination Chelsea Harbour Design Centre. The launch marks the extraordinary rise of MPD London on the luxury design scene after reaching multi-award winning status in 2012 where MPD took home awards for residential design categories at the International Design & Architecture Awards and the Society of British Interior Design Awards.

The MPD Studio serves as a multi-layered, collaborative design/lifestyle concept providing inspiration, vision and an interactive design space for the team and clients. The aim ultimately, to deliver the luxury interior design service to private individuals and commercial clients from initial ideas to final installation in a tailored and highly creative way. The studio has been designed by Maurizio Pellizzoni to portray elements of MPD ‘life-styling’ and will also provide a revolving gallery with guest exhibitions from various sources.

Devising an original scheme for this multi-faceted space came naturally to lifestyle expert Maurizio. The entrance to the Studio is flanked with two welcoming club chairs designed by MPD London, upholstered in a subtle light grey cashmere by Ralph Lauren, whilst a Scottish reindeer antler is a striking contrast against dark walnut panelled walls. The design combines tactile materials with elegant luxurious detailing to create depth and interest within the space.

A mezzanine level overlooks the main studio space where clients meet with the MPD team around the contemporary Ralph Lauren Lancaster glass table matched with black leather chairs. The centre-piece is the spectacular Terzani ‘Atlantis’ chandelier installation – a shimmering light produced by hundreds of illuminated lengths of draped gold chain.

A Collaborative Space
MPD London is delighted to announce a unique partnership with the renowned Italian lighting brand Terzani, as an authorised dealer for the UK. The full Terzani lighting collection is available for purchase and viewings by appointment at the studio. MPD London and Terzani share an affinity through their Italian heritage and commitment to innovation and beautiful craftsmanship in design.

Another exciting feature in the MPD Studio is the dynamic collaboration with John Jones, a global centre of excellence in the preservation and presentation of fine art. John Jones has organically built a collection of fine art and photography through the wide network of creative professionals and friends of the company. The collection on display includes the ‘House of Fairytales’, a creative charity project formed in 2008 where 22 key international artists came together to create a unique limited edition print portfolio on the theme of fairy tales, myths and legends. Maurizio Pellizzoni is delighted to display several key pieces from this collection which provide artistic creativity and effectively complement the interior décor of the MPD Studio.

The final layer to complete the concept space is the MPD Shop which displays stunning one-off pieces sourced by Maurizio Pellizzoni from his international travels. Tailor-made dark walnut joinery provides a dramatic backdrop for the curated collection of beautiful artefacts sourced from far-flung corners of the world, including antique pieces from South Africa and a selection of Chinese porcelain blue and white pottery. The pieces are hand-picked by Maurizio and form the starting point for a larger collection.

Maurizio says, “The launch of the MPD Studio marks an exciting time for MPD London. After a great year in 2012, finding the perfect space to grow as a team was my top priority for 2013. We have worked hard to realise my vision for creating a new design/lifestyle space and we are happy to celebrate the next phase of MPD London with our design partners Terzani and John Jones”.
