SPATEX supports Trade Aid

SPATEX has made a donation to Trade Aid, a charity whose mission is to establish trades such as carpenters, tailors, mechanics, blacksmiths and builders in impoverished communities.

It is a cause close to the heart of John Asher, ex-ISPE President and Honorary Treasurer who is the founder and chairman of the charity. John is also a stalwart and unsung hero of SPATEX, having given up many hours of his time to work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the smooth running of the Show.

The SPATEX donation bought a box of tailor’s tools for a training station in Malawi. The box was given to a disabled man who had lost his job after an accident and it enabled him to return to his profession. In the 11 years that Trade Aid has been in operation, it has raised over half a million pounds and supplied well over a thousand boxes to 35 different countries around the world. As students pass their exams, they are awarded a Trade Aid box in the trade they have been initiated into, so they can take the skills back to their villages and start up businesses, thus supporting their families and community.

Did you know?

SPATEX has to date raised over Ł1.4 million in its 22-year history. This staggering sum has been ploughed back into the industry, both for its promotion to a wider audience and representing and safeguarding its interests, both at home and abroad.
