Boutique hotel Hart Shoreditch has partnered with Atelier Roc for London Design Festival’s 20th Anniversary.
Atelier Roc is a London-based boutique design house that focuses on creating spaces and objects that combine functionality and natural aesthetic; they are showcasing a series of artworks and art installations titled The Art of Nature at the Hart Shoreditch hotel, running from 17th to 25th September 2022.Â
The hotel has also commissioned Yasmine Faress, founder and director of Atelier Roc, who has designed customised cushions, rugs and tapestries for the hotel’s suites and lobby which will remain as permanent pieces and lovely additions to the hotel design.
Part of the 20th edition of London Design Festival, the exhibition showcases the design studio’s first limited-batch throw collection as well as take viewers on an artistic journey of the design and fabrication process. Inspired by the natural world, The Art of Nature will bring a new perspective to fabric design by transforming and coalescing silhouettes found in nature to create distinctive woven designs.
The installation, Woven Forms, envelopes the striking Hart Shoreditch’s industrial staircase with a contrasting fabric. The staircase railing, which spans eight metres from floor to ceiling, is used as a giant warp and reveals an immersive journey from the top of the staircase to the lower ground floor where guests can sit and observe the woven installation from a different vantage point. Atelier Roc has partnered with AW Hainsworth, the heritage woollen mill, to exhibit the process of fabrication of jacquard weaves.
The hotel is a design masterpiece in itself with distinctive styles and historic homage present throughout the rooms, the restaurant, and the rest of the building. With 126 elegant rooms on offer, Hart Shoreditch provides guests with an authentic and welcoming hub from which to explore the local area. Its books and décor have been carefully selected from local antique shops, whilst bespoke carpets and fabrics made in East London help bring a taste of Shoreditch inside the hotel. Inspired by East London’s past, Hart Shoreditch showcases a unique design which provides a celebration of Shoreditch and its heritage as a centre for craftspeople and makers. The hotel’s on-site restaurant and bar boasts an industrial-luxe aesthetic with rattan and Thonet-style chairs and partition’s inspired by the Victorian furniture makers workshops of Great Eastern Street. Settle into dinners with delicious freshly prepared dishes cooked over the wood fire and grill, in a contemporary and unique setting.
