Innovative interior design trade show comes to Plymouth’s Custom House

Interiors students at Arts University Plymouth are hosting the Evolve Design Show at Custom House on 4 May 2023

The Evolve Design Show is set to take place on Thursday 4 May 2023 at the Custom House, Plymouth, organised by BA (Hons) Interior Design & Styling students from Arts University Plymouth. Showcasing the latest and most innovative design trends from around the world, the event promises to bring together a diverse range of industry professionals, designers, enthusiasts and students for an evening.

Set in the historic Custom House on the Barbican, the Evolve Design Show will feature a variety of exhibitors, showcasing their latest products and services in areas such as interior design, furniture design, lighting design, architecture, and more. Centred around evolving the future of interior design to be more sustainable, innovative and inspiring, attendees will have the opportunity to engage with the exhibitors, discover new products and services, and gain valuable insights into the latest design trends.

Confirmed exhibitors include wall coverings experts Arte Walls, Sekers fabrics, Scottish based fabric company Wemyss, luxury lighting by Porta Romana, Lewis & Wood’s fabric and wallpapers, interiors fabric companie Fermoie, luxury tiles supplier Amtico, wallpaper supplier Tektura, contemporary furniture and lighting company Momentum plus more to be announced.

Students from the BA (Hons) Interior Design & Styling course at Arts University Plymouth will also display their work, gaining invaluable experience of networking with potential clients and other industry professionals.

Second year interior students Matilda Shelley and Amelia Osborne have been project managing the event alongside a team of fellow students whose other roles included social media management, branding, fundraising, budgeting and event planning.

Matilda said, “I’m lucky enough to be co-project managing with Amelia and working with my fellow students to create the show. It has been really eye-opening to the details and planning that takes place to hold an event and replicate an industry standard interior trade show. Working on the show has built my personal skills of management, ensuring that no setbacks damage our final result. The experience has replicated working in a company all striving for one goal or project that has a fast approaching deadline. It’s been a fun challenge to be involved in.”

Amelia said, “It’s been a wonderful experience sharing project management with Matilda, I feel we’ve worked really well together as a team. Being project manager for this project has elevated me as a person and as a designer. I feel it has built my event management and planning skills, and I’m so proud of all the work our cohort has done to create, organise, fundraise and manage the creation of Evolve. The trade show will showcase so many amazing interior design companies and designers. I’m very grateful for this opportunity taking place in Plymouth and I’m very excited for the event itself!”

Subject Leader of BA (Hons) Interior Design & Styling, Cathryn Bishop said, “Our goal is to provide a platform for designers to showcase their latest products and services, while also creating a space for industry professionals, graduates, students and enthusiasts to learn and network. As more people recognize the value of good design, the South West’s interior designers have a unique opportunity to showcase their creativity and skill, and to push the boundaries of what is possible. Whether it’s designing sustainable spaces or integrating smart technologies, the evolving industry of interior design in the region is poised for growth and innovation, and is an exciting space for designers to explore. We’re putting our students at the forefront of this evolution by organising events such as Evolve.”

Admission is free and tickets are available via Eventbrite. You can find out more about the Evolve Design Show via their Facebook, Instagram and TikTok profiles.
