Brit Lee Broom lights up NYC retail

British award-winning furniture and lighting designer Lee Broom has partnered with Bergdorf Goodman Men’s Store in NYC to create the concept and collaborate on the design of their prestigious Fifth Avenue menswear windows.

The windows have been unveiled to coincide with the launch of NYCxDesign 2017 and will run for four weeks until early June.

The partnership with the luxury mid-town New York retailer has seen Broom curate his unique lighting, furniture and accessories alongside the latest menswear fashion for Summer 2017 including new collections from Thom Browne. The four exclusive windows themed ‘Exercise’, ‘Work’, ‘Play’ and ‘Explore’ look at the habitual day of a man, curated in a surreal and scenographic style. Broom has presented his products in a completely new way and with a classic Bergdorf aesthetic in mind, to create a playful narrative for the windows.

The windows feature iconic designs by Broom including the Crescent light, Tube light, Crystal Bulb and the Optical collection and explore signature materials including Carrara marble, crystal and polished brass. All products on display are available to purchase from the Lee Broom New York showroom at 34 Greene Street and online.

Lee Broom commented: “It was an honour to be asked by Shane Ruth, Visual Director of Bergdorf Goodman, to create designs for Bergdorf Goodman’s Men’s Store windows and to work with Shane’s fantastic team. The windows draw shoppers from across the globe, entertaining visitors from the sidewalk and being able to bring my designs to Fifth Avenue has been a very special experience.”
Shane Ruth Visual Director at Bergdorf Goodman commented: “It is our pleasure to collaborate with Lee Broom. He came to my attention a few years ago with his clever “Department Store” exhibit in Milan. His products have a modern inventiveness that holds hands with what is considered traditional design and I thought it would be great to create windows around his aesthetic. Lee sketched some ideas to get started and we went from there. We are very excited and honoured to collaborate with a design superstar.”
