Kelly Hoppen introduces RETROSPECTIVE, her first exclusive collection to be sold at Andrew Martin, celebrating her 40 years at the top table of design.
RETROSPECTIVE is Kelly Hoppen’s brand new collection, presented in her signature natural colour palette. The collection of 42 designs, includes everything from furniture to lighting. With 40 years’ worth of ideas poured into one collection, it is a true reflection of Hoppen’s style and everything that she has loved over her career, from vintage pieces to organic textures and material combinations.
RETROSPECTIVE uses a range of different metals, rose, bronze and nickel, alongside suedes, velvets and woods. Martin Waller, Founder of Andrew Martin commented, “Kelly is a rare designer in that there is a message, a philosophy and an idea which underpins her work. She has discipline.”
Kelly Hoppen and Martin Waller have shared a strong working relationship and friendship for years, with Kelly being the first recipient of the Andrew Martin International Interior Designer of the Year Award in 1996. “It was the discipline, rigour and attention to detail that drew me to Kelly’s work,” Martin mused. It was a career changing moment for Hoppen. “It was the first proper award that I had won and was such a confidence booster,” she recalls. “I called it the BAFTA of interior design, and it really was a pivotal moment.”
RETROSPECTIVE will be displayed at the Andrew Martin showroom on Walton Street, the home of Andrew Martin for the last 40 years. “Where else would you go? The thing about Andrew Martin is that you go into a cave of different looks and feels,” explains Hoppen. “Martin has been so clever in that he has created a shop floor that a million different people can buy from, and which appeals to so many tastes. Martin has a great way of editing and has created a look and style of his own. I think that’s what sets us apart.”
“I love it all. Each piece sings its own song and I think that’s the beauty of the collection. You can put any piece in any room, and it will work. This collection is me looking at everything that I have loved, from vintage pieces to texture and particular combinations,” Hoppen concluded.
