A balustrade with a twist from Bisca

A new staircase in this refurbished property, repositioned to maximise comfort and open up the view to the garden, has totally transformed the hallway into an exciting and welcoming space.

The balustrade, a work of art in its own right, turns this classic staircase into something extraordinary. The unusual design features twisted forged and organically formed bronze uprights which cast a warm glow over the room.   The oval leather handrail adds a luxurious, glamorous touch and a flowing feel to the staircase.

The treads and risers are made in character oak, stained to match the flooring below. At the foot of the stair, two larger treads widen to turn the staircase away from the wall.

“Angles in opposing directions grab attention without being distracting. The balustrade design takes the formality of parallel uprights and turns it on its head; uprights that twist helically and rotate to form a soft curve on both stair and landing. The variation of form is enhanced further by the subtle shimmer of the forged bronze.” Richard McLane, Design Director, Bisca.
