Harriet Wetton is the Founder of Narchie, the social marketplace app for homeware, which was born out of a personal yearning for an inclusive and inspiring platform for discovering interior products and brands.
Tell us about your design background.
I studied fashion design and textiles at university in London. I learnt so much, especially during year one rotating between Weave, Knit and Print but by the end I realised the world of fashion design was not for me. I then worked in advertising and PR and set up my own PR agency working with sustainable lifestyle brands in 2018.
Where did the idea for Narchie come from?
It came from my own frustrations with other platforms and my need for one place to discover independent homeware brands, creatives and second-hand sellers – one that was inspiring and social. My sister Anna Wetton is a fulltime Depop seller and is ranked 75th in the world; I could see how well the business model worked for fashion and wanted the same for interiors that I could use.
What does Narchie represent as a brand?
Narchie is an inclusive platform for decor enthusiasts to buy sell and connect with one and other. We are social first, transactional second. Community is at the centre of everything.
What is the biggest challenge for Narchie in the social marketplace industry?
Ensuring our product is always the best it can be for our community.
What are you focused on for 2022?
We are launching android very soon, which is very exciting as we have lots of users eagerly awaiting it. We will continue to grow the team and launch in another market, probably France and Ireland.
What does the company aspire to look like in the next five years?
We aspire to be the number one social marketplace for homeware. Enable sellers to start and grow their businesses on the app, make shopping for the home exciting and inspiring and always champion sustainability.
