Confident Grace by Rachel Usher Interior Design

Rachel Usher Interior Design discusses the thoughtful details and bespoke finishes of a luxurious private residential project.

Approaching the design of this home required thoughtful consideration to balance the brief of creating a luxury space whilst also redefining the functionality of each room, crafting a design that was a perfect balance between contemporary and timeless.

THE LOUNGE: THE CREATION OF MOOD

Previously the lounge area, which is situated within a central pivot point of the home, had become overlooked and fallen out of regular use with the family. It was clear that the room had lost purpose and and it was important to re-identify the space and add value by enhancing the way in which the family live and engage.

Spatial planning was key in identifying how the space should be re-designed,  looking at the flow of the family through the room, and envisaging how the design could bring a new sense of togetherness.

A bespoke floor leaning mirror with a grey tint adds to the sense of moodiness and reflects the soft ambient light from the backlight display adding a further gentle glow, flanked either side with the elegant Friends and Founders La Pipe lounge chairs, a perfect place to sit and relax with an evening cocktail.

The lounge area, creates drama with the large cascading glass chandelier by CTO Lighting that takes centre stage of the whole space, hanging opulently and creating a strong sense of femininity into an otherwise subtly masculine design.

CONSIDERED STYLING

At the rear of the room  stands a beautifully crafted bespoke Rachel Usher Interior Design credenza,  with curved facetted doors and inset brass detailing,  providing a focal point of interest and much needed storage and offering the opportunity for a back drop of styling. On the credenza rests a privately commissioned glass sculpture by the talented bespoke glass artist Ingrid Pears which sits as a unique piece of private artwork for the client.

Warmth and depth were introduced into the scheme by the thoughtful use of considered textural elements and subtle detailing. The B&B Italia Maxalto Solatium sofa offers a large sociable seating arrangement in the centre of the room which anchors the space and brings the family together in a luxurious setting.

THE BATHROOM: FEELING RENEWED

When considering the design of this space, it was important to create an environment that was restful yet confident, thereby encouraging a deeper connection with the experience of water. The overall aesthetic was a tactile continuous bespoke surface which flowed seamlessly around the room. The Rachel Usher Interior Design team applied their high level technical capabilities in ensuring that the space was meticulously planned and detailed to ensure that the final appearance of raw beauty, was unapologetic and authoritative.

The brassware in the bathroom was an important consideration, harnessing the strength of the space with the  SAMUEL-HEATH Landmark collection, specified  for the collections fusion of raw with the refined, in a celebration of contemporary design. The walls and ceilings were designed to include shadow gap detailing, allowing for a gentle wash of light to fall over the surfaces, highlighting the tactility of the materials and creating a 360 degree sensory experience.

THE BEDROOM: RESTFULNESS

The Rachel Usher team were tasked to create multiple bedrooms in the home and ensure that each became a restful sanctuary for the family. The design brief for this bedroom (pictured above) was to create a light and airy space which maximised storage opportunities. The layout of the room was challenging and the family were struggling to make the space work well for their current needs.

The design scheme was developed to feel effortless and chic, a muted and feminine palette combining restful and quiet tones was carefully selected to enhance relaxation and a feeling of calm. A bespoke fixed headboard with integrated switches for the automated Lutron lighting system was created. A multi-panelled screen with inset silk panels acts as a backdrop with a dynamic design to give a modern edge using luxury materials.

THE CINEMA ROOM

The purpose of the cinema room was to create an immersive space that the family could escape to that encourages a sense of togetherness. In order to achieve this, a multi-functional modular sofa was carefully designed to provide flexibility and  maximise space whilst retaining that luxurious appearance.

An impressive bespoke joinery wall flanked by beautiful illuminated cabinets brings a touch of luxury and identity to the space, whilst soft textures and a muted colour palette introduces a sense of calm and enhances relaxation.
