Bemz and Tom Dixon have announced a design collaboration, to be unveiled during Milan Design Week.
The collaboration will consist of a collection of textile covers designed exclusively for the DELAKTIG living platform, the collective brainchild of IKEA and Tom Dixon. To launch this collaboration, Bemz and Tom Dixon have created an haute-couture concept cover for the DELAKTIG bed/sofa.
The IKEA x Tom Dixon DELAKTIG furniture series is an open-source living platform designed to be customized by external companies and individuals. Bemz is the first company to hack the platform with this collaboration.
“By joining forces with Tom Dixon on the DELAKTIG project, we are combining the best of two worlds – Tom Dixon’s design style and Bemz textile expertise,” says Lesley Pennington, Bemz Founder and CEO. “Bemz grasped the potential of IKEA as an open-source platform a very long time ago. Our partnership with Tom Dixon and DELAKTIG raises the bar for collaborative design in the furniture industry and creates greater value and choice for our customers.”
The Bemz x Tom Dixon collaboration featuring the haute-couture concept cover will be previewed in the VIP lounge at Multiplex, Tom Dixon’s exhibition space at Milan Design Week. Multiplex will take over the entire Teatro Manzoni, the iconic cinema and galleria on via Manzoni, in the city´s cultural and luxury shopping district. The theme of Multiplex is Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow, showcasing Tom Dixon´s iconic designs, new products and innovation, with DELAKTIG and the Bemz collaboration representing Tomorrow.
“The furniture industry is in the main still a dozy and slow moving world, not yet disrupted or in synch with the fast moving contemporary landscape. When we started working with IKEA on the bed/sofa project DELAKTIG, we wanted to find collaborators that understood the opportunities that are around if you can think differently in this sector. Bemz were the first to respond, to grasp the challenge and to jump in to the experiment, which is an open source, hackable bed frame that can be modified, transformed and upgraded at will.” says Tom Dixon, Founder and Creative Director.
IKEA will also be present at Multiplex, running a film festival highlighting the DELAKTIG open-source project, where the bed/sofa concept will be unveiled for the first time.
DELAKTIG will be available in-store at IKEA starting February 2018. The full range of covers by Bemz x Tom Dixon will be available on bemz.com starting February 2018.
